Barriers to Accessing Speech and Language Therapy for Looked-after Children
06 August 2025
As of March 2024, the number of Looked-after children and young people (LACYP) in England was 83,630 (Department of Education, 2024). According to the RCSLT, LACYP are at a higher risk of speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN), yet access to Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) services, remains a challenge.
The aim of this research is to explore the experiences of qualified social workers who have worked with LACYP, particularly those with SLCNs and/or experience accessing SLT services.
